The Birmingham Chapter of AORN was established August 28, 1969 and started with 53 members. Our founder and
first president was Doris Coppage.
The Birmingham Chapter of AORN is active in community service and educating the public about perioperative
nursing. Our members represent every hospital in Birmingham as well as surrounding areas. This ensures that each perioperative
patient receives excellent care as driven by high community standards of care .
Throughout the years we have grown to be the largest chapter in Alabama, sending 4 delegates and 4 alternates to
represent us this year at the 53rd AORN National Congress in Washington, DC. Through educational grants from our
generous Industry Partners, the chapter is able to fund the delegates' expenses. This helps to ensure that we maintain
an active voice in our national organization. The delegates are charged with obtaining critical information and sharing
this knowledge with the chapter.
